NPP will make Ghana a safe, peaceful and truly democratic country -Akufo-Addo

Accra, Dec. 31, GNA - The New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday pledged its commitment to make Ghana a safe, peaceful, united and truly democratic country.

"Ghana should be a country where the rule of law, human rights, and the principles of democratic accountability are respected," Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the NPP Flagbearer said in a New Year Message.

"We are determined to bring back to Ghana, a strong, decisive and compassionate leadership of competence, fairness and integrity. We pray to God that His will be done."

The message on the theme 93There's Hope For A Brighter Future" Nana Akufo-Addo said 93In pursuit of our agenda to create a new society of opportunities for every Ghanaian, we will continue with all the progressive programmes that the NPP administration initiated. Ours is to build a new Ghana, where fairness, freedom and fraternity are supreme."

"We will, therefore, not relent in our established efforts to provide affordable, quality healthcare for all and to give free, quality education and skills for jobs to every Ghanaian child or youth, regardless of the circumstances of birth. We are the party that can fix it. We are the NPP."

It said 93As we welcome 2011, the stage is set once more for a new cycle of challenges and opportunities. Being the first full year for oil production, it is understandable for Ghanaians to enter 2011 with a special sense of national optimism. The expectations of Ghanaians may be high, varied and many."

"However, much of what is expected of leadership is doable: good governance, good schools, good health, good security, good transportation system, skills for good jobs and good pay," it added.

"As we demand of those in power competent, honest and inspiring leadership, we should all, as Ghanaians, play our individual and collective roles to help move our beloved country forward. There is hope for Ghana. There is a brighter future for you and I and for our children, 93Nana Akufo-Addo said.

"The NPP's prayer for the New Year is for peace, freedom, security, tolerance, jobs, better pay, fairness and economic relief for the mass of Ghanaians. In short, promises made, fulfilled."

"The NPP will remain firm in resisting any attempt to roll back the social, economic and democratic gains made before 2009. We will continue to support policies that will move Ghana forward. We will show to Ghanaians that in us they have an alternative government that can actually get the job done."

The statement said the NPP's programme for 2011 was to build on the enviable unity of the party and prepare for the crucial task of winning power in 2012 in order to put in place appropriate programmes to bring back hope and deliver solutions for a brighter future.

"Together with the Electoral Commission, all of us should work hard to ensure that we have a good and fair electoral system that will produce electoral results acceptable to all and sundry," it added.

"We believe that besides confidence in the electoral system, the ultimate test for our democracy is winning the seemingly worsening war against mass poverty. It is the conviction of the NPP that Ghana can only win the war against poverty by building a New Society of Opportunities." "We want to build a society where everyone has a fair opportunity to better him or herself, that is why the NPP is committed to making it possible for you, no matter your background, to be able to create prosperity for yourself and your family in an ever-expanding Ghanaian economy. "Stronger individuals build stronger families; stronger families build stronger communities and stronger communities build stronger nations," it added.

PRESS RELEASE NANA ADDO'S NEW YEAR MESSAGE THERE'S HOPE FOR A BRIGHTER FUTURE'

Once again nature has drawn down her curtain on another year. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) and I, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, are grateful to the Almighty God for His perpetual protection over Ghana and her people. He continues to show that His Love for us is boundless and bountiful.

As we welcome 2011, the stage is set once more for a new cycle of challenges and opportunities. Being the first full year for oil production, it is understandable for Ghanaians to enter 2011 with a special sense of national optimism. The expectations of Ghanaians may be high, varied and many.

However, much of what is expected of leadership is doable: good governance, good schools, good health, good security, good transportation system, skills for good jobs and good pay.

Like the year before it, 2011 presents another challenge for the Ghanaian to reaffirm his or her enduring spirit. For as the Good Book says in Mathew 10:22, 93He that endureth to the end shall be saved".

As we demand of those in power competent, honest and inspiring leadership, we should all, as Ghanaians, play our individual and collective roles to help move our beloved country forward.

There is hope for Ghana. There is a brighter future for you and I and for our children.

The NPP's prayer for the New Year is for peace, freedom, security, tolerance, jobs, better pay, fairness and economic relief for the mass of Ghanaians. In short, promises made, fulfilled.

The NPP will remain firm in resisting any attempt to roll back the social, economic and democratic gains made before 2009. We will continue to support policies that will move Ghana forward. We will show to Ghanaians that in us they have an alternative government that can actually get the job done. Our programme for this year is to build on the enviable unity of our party and prepare ourselves for the crucial task of winning power in 2012 in order to put in place appropriate programmes to bring back hope and deliver solutions for a brighter future.

Together with the Electoral Commission, all of us should work hard to ensur= e that we have a good and fair electoral system that will produce electoral results acceptable to all and sundry. We believe that besides confidence in the electoral system, the ultimate test for our democracy is winning the seemingly worsening war against mass poverty.

It is the conviction of the NPP that Ghana can only win the war against poverty by building a New Society of Opportunities. We want to build a society where everyone has a fair opportunity to better him- or herself, that is why the NPP is committed to making it possible for you, no matter your background, to be able to create prosperity for yourself and your family in an ever-expanding Ghanaian economy.

Stronger individuals build stronger families; stronger families build stronger communities and stronger communities build stronger nations. We pledge to make Ghana a safe, peaceful, united and truly democratic country to live in, where the rule of law, human rights, and the principles of democratic accountability are respected.

We are determined to bring back to Ghana, a strong, decisive and compassionate leadership of competence, fairness and integrity. We pray to God that His will be done.

In pursuit of our agenda to create a new society of opportunities for every Ghanaian, we will continue with all the progressive programmes that the NPP administration initiated. Ours is to build a new Ghana, where fairness, freedom and fraternity are supreme.

We will, therefore, not relent in our established efforts to provide affordable, quality healthcare for all and to give free, quality education and skills for jobs to every Ghanaian child or youth, regardless of the circumstances of birth. We are the party that can fix it. We are the NPP.

There is hope for Ghana. There is a brighter future ahead of us all. Victory is, indeed, promised to those who persevere. Ghana is destined to succeed.

You can trust us to make Ghana succeed. We are the NPP. We wish you all a Happy New Year and a brighter future!

May God bless us all and Mother Ghana, where freedom and justice reign.

6 arrested over illegal receipt of crime proceeds wired from U.S.

             FRAUD BUSTED IN TOKYO

Six people have been arrested in a suspected money laundering case involving illegally receiving a total of about 570 million yen wired from a U.S. bank to Japan by disguising proceeds of crime as legitimate income, Japanese police said Thursday.

The suspects are Nyeche Obeneme, a 36-year-old company executive with Nigerian citizenship in Okegawa, Saitama Prefecture, two other Nigerian men, a Ghanaian man and a Japanese man and woman.

The case is believed to be part of roughly 2.8 billion yen wired to seven countries, such as Japan, South Korea, China and Australia, from a Citibank account in New York in the name of the National Bank of Ethiopia in the autumn of 2008, investigative sources said.

The billions of yen were wired based on fake wire transfer documents sent to the U.S. bank. The Federal Bureau of Investigation asked Japan’s National Police Agency in October 2008 to also investigate the case in Japan.

Most of the approximately 570 million yen sent to Japan has already been withdrawn, and it is unclear what has become of the money, according to the sources.

Some of the suspects have said they allowed their bank accounts to be used for receiving remittances and got commissions ranging from 3 million to 7 million yen, police said.

Foreign crimes in Japan - Dorobo Gaijin-san in Nihonland

Foreign criminality in Japan

How bad is foreign crime in Japan ?

Japan's National Police Agency (NPA) reported 40,615 cases of crimes or offences involving foreigners for 2003. This was an increase of 16.9% from the previous year and topping the 40,000 line for the first time in history. But what is hidden behind these figures ? Do foreigners really commit much more crimes than Japanese ?
Foreign crime in Japan is increasing, but so does Japan's foreign population. In 1980, there were 782,910 foreigners registered in Japan. In 1990, it had increased to 1,075,317, then to 1,686,444 in 2000, and around 1,9 million in late 2003. That is an increase of 45% in 10 years, compared with 2,1% growth in the total population.

The 16% increase in criminal cases and 19% increase in number of people arrested from 2002 to 2003 is hardly significant, as number fluctuate a lot from year to year and had even decreased by 11% (cases) from 2000 to 2001. Over the 10 year period between 1993 and 2003, the number of cases has grown by 52%, while arrests have only increased by 38%, compared to the 45% increase in registered foreigners. Contrarily to the myth that Japanese officials want to convey, foreigners are not getting more dangerous than before.

A suspicious death in police custody

May 13th 2010 | TOKYO | From The Economist print edition

ABUBAKAR AWUDU SURAJ was already unconscious when the cabin crew of EgyptAir MS965 saw him on board, before the Tokyo-to-Cairo flight. Shortly later he was dead. A Ghanaian who had lived illegally in Japan, Mr Suraj was being deported on March 22nd, when he was lifted and forced onto the plane in handcuffs with a towel gagging him and knotted in the back to restrain him. An autopsy failed to determine a cause of death, yet his widow saw facial injuries when she identified the body. Three days later an Immigration Bureau official admitted: “It is a sorry thing that we have done.”
